The 2027 Giant Talon 4 Mountain Bike is built for riders ready to move beyond basic recreational bikes and start developing real off-road skills. Its updated ALUXX-Grade aluminium frame keeps the bike light and durable, while trail-focused geometry, front suspension and size-specific wheel options help riders feel more confident when the surface gets rough.

For riding around Broome or heading onto dirt and trails, it's a straightforward hardtail with plenty of room for your riding to progress.

Wheel size matched to the rider

Rather than putting the same wheel size on every frame, Giant matches the Talon 4's wheels to its sizing.

XS and S are available with 27.5-inch wheels, while S, M, L and XL are offered with 29-inch wheels. The suspension setup is matched too, with 80 mm travel on the 27.5-inch versions and 100 mm on the 29-inch versions.

The result is a bike designed to keep its handling balanced across the size range instead of making smaller riders manage an unnecessarily large setup.

Simple 1x8 gearing for the trail

The microSHIFT Acolyte 1x8 drivetrain uses a single front chainring and an 8-speed 12–46T cassette. That gives you a straightforward gear setup with only one shifter to manage, plus a wide range for changing terrain.

A clutch-equipped microSHIFT Acolyte rear derailleur helps manage the chain as the trail gets rough.

Hydraulic brakes and trail-ready components

Tektro hydraulic disc brakes with 160 mm front and rear rotors provide controlled braking, while Maxxis Ikon 2.2-inch tyres give the bike a proper mountain-bike footprint.

The frame has clearance for tyres up to 2.4 inches, plus internal cable routing, integrated chainstay protection and a 12x142 rear thru-axle.

Put it together and the Talon 4 is a capable first mountain bike with the modern frame features and upgrade potential to keep up as your riding develops.

Features:

  • ALUXX-Grade aluminium frame — keeps the bike light and durable for easier handling on off-road terrain.
  • Size-specific 27.5" or 29" wheels — gives riders a more proportionate setup instead of forcing one wheel size across every frame.
  • 80 mm or 100 mm SR Suntour suspension — takes the edge off rough ground and helps improve control when the trail gets uneven.
  • microSHIFT Acolyte 1x8 drivetrain — simple single-chainring shifting with a wide 12–46T cassette for changing terrain.
  • Clutch rear derailleur — helps control the chain when riding over rougher surfaces.
  • Tektro hydraulic disc brakes — controlled braking through 160 mm front and rear rotors.
  • Up to 2.4" tyre clearance — leaves room to run wider tyres as your riding preferences develop.

FAQ

Who is the Giant Talon 4 Mountain Bike best for?

The Giant Talon 4 is aimed at aspiring mountain bikers who want a proper aluminium hardtail for developing their off-road riding. You get front suspension, hydraulic disc brakes, a simple 1x drivetrain and mountain-bike geometry without unnecessary complication.

Can the Giant Talon 4 handle off-road trails?

Yes. Off-road riding is what the Talon 4 is designed around. Its ALUXX aluminium frame, SR Suntour suspension fork, Maxxis Ikon tyres and hydraulic disc brakes give you the basic equipment needed to build confidence on dirt and trails.

Should I choose the 27.5" or 29" Giant Talon 4?

Wheel size is linked to frame size. XS is offered with 27.5" wheels; M, L and XL use 29" wheels. Size S is available with either 27.5" or 29" wheels.

If you're deciding between the two S versions, fit should come first. The published sizing guide lists both for riders around 163–172 cm, so it's worth checking the fit with the Broome Cycles team before choosing.

What size Giant Talon 4 do I need?

The supplied reference ranges are:

  • XS: 155–166 cm
  • S: 163–172 cm
  • M: 169–179 cm
  • L: 176–186 cm
  • XL: 183–193 cm

These ranges are a guide rather than a guarantee of fit. Rider proportions and preference can affect the right choice.

Is the 1x8 drivetrain suitable for a new mountain biker?

The Talon 4 uses a microSHIFT Acolyte 1x8 drivetrain, so there's one front chainring and eight rear gears to manage. That keeps the controls straightforward while the wide 12–46T cassette provides a useful range for changing off-road terrain.

Can I fit wider tyres to the Giant Talon 4?

The frame provides clearance for tyres up to 2.4 inches wide. The supplied Maxxis Ikon tyres are 2.2 inches, leaving some additional tyre-clearance room within Giant's stated maximum.
